Living in Estero
Estero is Southwest Florida's convenience capital — a master-planned village between Fort Myers and Naples, incorporated in 2014 and built almost entirely in the last three decades, with I-75, US 41 and RSW airport (about 15 minutes) all in easy reach. Nearly everything is newer, gated and amenity-rich: a corridor of golf and resort communities offering bundled and equity clubs, coach homes and condos at attainable entry points, and modern hurricane-rated construction throughout.
The village shops better than towns twice its size — Coconut Point's 500-acre open-air town center, Miromar Outlets' 140-plus stores, and Gulf Coast Town Center just north — and Florida Gulf Coast University plus the 7,100-seat Hertz Arena, home of the Florida Everblades, give it a pulse most suburbs lack. A planned civic town center dubbed The Hub, envisioned with an entertainment campus and sports park, aims to add a true heart. The Gulf beaches at Bonita, Lovers Key and Fort Myers Beach are a 20-to-30-minute drive, while Estero Bay — Florida's first aquatic preserve — and Koreshan State Park keep the outdoors close. The trade-offs: HOA living almost everywhere, and seasonal congestion around Corkscrew Road.
