Gated Living
Privacy, security and the gate — what it buys and what it costs.
What makes a great gated living community?
Gated living is the default mode of much of Southwest Florida — the corridors of Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero and Fort Myers are lined with communities where the gate fronts a package of pools, fitness centers, courts, social calendars and maintained landscaping. What the gate really buys is predictability: architectural standards, funded common areas and lock-and-leave ease that seasonal residents prize. What it costs is the fee stack — HOA dues, sometimes club fees and community assessments — plus the rules that keep everything looking the way it does.
The regional contrast is useful: Cape Coral, Naples Park and Golden Gate Estates offer the no-HOA alternative, trading amenities for freedom. Most buyers here aren't choosing whether gates are good or bad — they're choosing which trade they'd rather live with.
